London-based Industrial designer Tim Rundle, whose portfolio spans furniture, consumer products and technology, takes a softer spin with Bloom Pendant. The super-elliptical form is obviously based on the iconic paper lantern, reinterpreted in contrasting materials for an updated play on transparency and light. The finely perforated mesh core and frosted blown glass bring a soft-focus texture to the inside of the shade while a directed pool of light is projected downwards onto objects below. Whether switched on or off, Bloom is a mesmerizing shape, true to the style of New Zealand lighting brand Resident.	RESIDENT“I’d be ripping my hair out if something took more than half an hour to put together,” says Resident founder Simon James on the subject of flat-pack furniture, something he knows quite a lot about. “Most of our products wouldn’t have more than five or six screws, maximum, nor do they take longer than 5 or 10 minutes to put together.” That’s just one of the innovative qualities of the New Zealand contemporary design and manufacturing company established in 2011.
